Kapital – Cult denim and patchwork aesthetics
Founded in the 1980s in Kojima, Japan's denim capital, Kapital has established itself as an iconic house of artisanal Japanese fashion. Now led by Kiro and Toshikiyo Hirata, the brand is known for its selvedge jeans, indigo treatments, and experimental approach to clothing. Kapital isn't limited to denim: its collections explore patchwork, boro (a Japanese textile repair technique), and eclectic influences ranging from folk to military.
Each piece expresses a unique and sustainable clothing philosophy, true to the Made in Japan spirit. In the international market, Kapital has acquired cult status, notably thanks to its “Ring Coat” jackets, Smiley scarves, and reworked jeans.
Highly sought-after in the Japanese secondhand and archive market, the brand appeals to both lovers of high-end denim and those passionate about avant-garde fashion. Kapital embodies the convergence of artisanal heritage and conceptual modernity.
