Tao Comme des Garçons – Pleated Poetry
Tao Kurihara, a former collaborator of Rei Kawakubo, founded the Tao Comme des Garçons line in 2005. Her designs explore the idea of poetic femininity through delicate silhouettes, often marked by the use of pleating, transparencies and layering.
Tao is part of the CDG universe, but with its own sensibility: a more intimate, romantic, and artisanal fashion. Each collection reveals a subtle balance between textile experimentation and Japanese refinement.
Although the line was discontinued in 2011, Tao Comme des Garçons pieces have become highly sought-after on the archival secondhand market. They embody a rare and precious facet of avant-garde Japanese fashion, confirming Tao as one of the cult signatures of the CDG universe.
