Yohji Yamamoto – The master of black and oversized volumes

Born in 1943 in Tokyo, Yohji Yamamoto founded his house in 1972 and presented his first collections in Paris in 1981. His silhouettes, made of ample drapes and deep blacks, overturned Western codes by introducing a radical elegance, both poetic and subversive.
His vision: to dress the freedom of the body, to conceal to better reveal, to deconstruct Western tailoring in favor of a fluid and timeless garment. Always made in Japan, his creations embody the union of tradition and the avant-garde.

Yohji Yamamoto's main lines:

Yohji Yamamoto Woman (1981)
The historic feminine line. Black silhouettes, architectural volumes, asymmetries, and draping. A fashion that is both poetic and radical, emblematic of the Japanese avant-garde.

Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme (1984)
Showcasing in Paris, she reinvented the menswear wardrobe by blurring the boundaries of the suit. Deconstructed tailoring, loose-fitting pants, flowing jackets: an instantly recognizable DNA.

Y's (1972)
Yohji's first line, designed as a women's everyday wardrobe, is more accessible but faithful to his aesthetic language: loose cuts, simplicity, and functional elegance.

Y-3 (2002)
Collaboration with Adidas, a pioneer in the marriage of sport and avant-garde. Iconic sneakers and hybrid silhouettes, combining technical performance with the Yohji spirit.

Y's for Men
Developed in the 80s–90s as a men's version of Y's. Now part of Yohji Yamamoto Homme, but sought after for its vintage pieces.

Yohji Yamamoto Black Scandal (2017)
A radical and experimental capsule collection, featuring dark and subversive prints. More accessible but still faithful to the Yamamoto universe, it appeals to an audience that loves the avant-garde.
